Versatile Blogger Award – the Nominees Part One

A few weeks back, I was given the Versatile Blogger award by which was very kind.
It was a strange time as far as awards and I were concerned. I hadn’t realised they existed, then suddenly I got two in the space of a few days and just about every post I read seemed to be someone thanking someone else for giving them a gong.

We all seemed to be permanently on the red carpet and there was a delicious vicarious thrill wondering if anyone was going to tip into Dickie Attenborough mode. If anyone did, I missed it.

The rules for the VB seem identical to those for the One Lovely Blog Award. This is what it says on the VBA page

If you are nominated, you’ve been awarded the Versatile Blogger award.

Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.
Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.
Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — you might include a link to this site.
Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

Reasonable enough. But coming so soon after the OLBA, I was hard pressed to come up with a new set of fifteen new blogs. I was also aware that my fifteen for OLBA divided into two main camps – photography and pets. Having recently started joining in with the Weekly Photo Challenge I am visiting more blogs with photos than any other.

So, I decided it was time to branch out. And I am finding some great blogs. I am going to nominate fifteen, but I’m going to them in batches or two or three at a time. Here are the first three:
which I found by looking for posts with the tag licorice (don’t ask), and which left me laughing aloud and thinking. Good combo. At first I thought it was a fairly fluffy blog about dressmaking and cats, then as I read on, I realised there was a great deal more going on, and an awareness of disability that doesn’t feature on many blogs I read.

A trawl of posts tagged dementia, yielded, subtitled Adventures with Dementia. Funny, sad, thought provoking and very few comments. She doesn’t post a lot, but I believe she has a fairly unique perspective on dementia and that more people should know about her and her grandfather and follow her blog .

This blogger found me. She wrote such a lovely comment, I had to go and check out her page. By the number of comments and the range of people visiting her page already, I seem to one of the last people on WordPress to find her. A warm and lovely blogger who describes herself thus: I am a 60 year old gal that wanted to indulge myself with a blog where I could place my pictures of subjects that are special to me. I give you
You know she would be the friendliest soul if you dropped round for coffee and you would talk all day and probably all night too.

So, now for seven more facts about me:
1. I’m getting my hair cut on Thursday
2. I thought I had thirteen first cousins, now I know I have more
3. I was born on the day I was due
4. I was born at home and the little girl next door (it was a semi-detached house), knowing I was due, slept with her ear to the wall and heard nothing
5. If my grandmother had been my grandfather, I would be a baroness
6. One of my ancestors introduced the waltz to England
7. I have never seen a James Bond film.

  1. Love your “Seven Facts” Isobel…..I also love your blog. I do believe the moniker “Versatile” fits you to a “T” because you have combined lovely photography with updates on life with Not Cat (and previously Cat). A most winning combination! Congratulations from me AND Sam as well.

  2. I was nominated for the VB award not long after I joined here and I didn’t even KNOW 15 other blogs to nominate – as well as not being technically experienced enough to know how to link anyone’s blog – so I bottled out. I have since found many wonderful blogs but it seems a little late to do my own post on it now!

I enjoy your blog for all sorts of reasons though and you would definitely be on my list 🙂

    • Thanks Flossie. 🙂 I enjoy your page a lot.
I have enjoyed the spur to check out blogs new to me because of this award. It’s a good way to make you explore and move out of the comfort zone and say thanks to people who produce good pages.
It’s surprising how small some of our circles are even with WordPress as big as it is, and I’ve noticed that especially since joining in with the photography challenges.

  3. Love your photos, always so relaxing to look at. Thanks for another great visit and have fun with those awards of peer recognition. I, too, loved the Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

  4. Ok, here’s where I’m going to show my lack of awareness of what truly goes on in the blogging world! Congratulations on your versatile blogging award and thank you for including me in your nominees. I had a good chuckle at the description of my blog as a fluffy thing with some serious stuff underneath. I’m afraid, I am like Flossie – I’m not sure I even know 15 bloggers so I best start reading!

  6. Well Isobel! Congratulations to you! I love it when I see a new post of yours pop up in my inbox. And yes, I did find you and I am so happy I found you and Not Cat and Cat too of course. And thank you so much for thinking of me when you thought of blogs to nominate. “You know she would be the friendliest soul if you dropped round for coffee and you would talk all day and probably all night too.” I am so happy you think that, it puts a big old smile on my face this morning! I would love to have you drop in for coffee in my little bit of rural MissouREE and talk all day and maybe into the night. How fun and interesting would that be? I would love to know more about you and I spend so much time here when I can’t sleep and even during the day reading your archives, I am afraid you are going to think I am a stalker. I am in the Flossie and thescroobiouspip camp in that when it comes to awards I am technically challenged at the linking stuff. Add the facts that I am a bit shy about the things ‘about me’ and I am a terrible procrastinator. I will definitely be checking out the other two blogs you nominated!

I am curious about the Dickie Attenborough mode : )

    • 🙂 i mean to repost some of my old MyT stuff. It holds memories for me, and I’d like to keep it together.
I’ll see if I can find a clip on Youtube from Monty Python that will illustrate the Dickie Attenborough mode.

If you go to the VBA site you can just save the award and insert it as a photo. I’m sure it has instructions for if you want to display it permanently on your home page too.
Actually, how did you find me?

  7. Congratulations, Isobel!!!
I am not acquainted with many blogs, though. Yours, is a lively and easy going blog. Very witty and heartwarming. I truly enjoy reading you.
