Thank you for this, Isobel. I’ve shared it on Facebook. He is absolutely right. This government takes the view that to be rich is right and to be poor is wrong, to be fortunate is deserved, while to be in desperate straits is likewise deserved and therefore not in need of any comfort or assistance. “God made them high and lowly and ordered their estates”…..
Having been a landlady to refugees and subsequently working with them in a refugee support agency from 2004 till 2011, and then going on to teach English to classes which always included refugees, I am beyond sickened by the current government’s approach to turning them into Un-Menschen. (Not real people.)
