I was at the boarded up and almost empty Heygate Estate to visit Reuben Powell‘s studio. I have four pictures by him; early ones where he painted on tin salvaged from old cooking cans from outside restaurants. I think he is incredibly talented.
It is fitting he should be at the Heygate as he has been documenting the changes at the Elephant and Castle for the last few years.
I didn’t know there were martial arts’ classes there too. I couldn’t access the mobile garden which brings a welcome splash of colour to the now empty blocks. Maybe another day.
On the edge of the Heygate Estate, scheduled for demolition as part of the regeneration of the Elephant and Castle, I took this picture.
