It’s been called a madrigal in stone; the spire of St Bride’s church in the City of London. It was rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1666, and designed by Christopher Wren.
It is on Fleet Street, and although print journalism has now moved to Docklands, this remains the journalists’ church. The spire is also said to have inspired our tiered wedding cakes.
It so happens that it is St Bride’s Day today.

Beautiful!
Yes, it is Julia. Have you been inside St Bride’s? It is worth the visit.
Almost too beautiful and delicate to be “the spiritual home of the media”!
That’s not a fingerpost for Champion Hill on top, is it?
When journalists go missing, reporting from various hotspots around the globe, they are remembered and prayed for in this church. It is sobering to see their photographs and their stories in a side chapel of this very well maintained church.

No one else has that photo! Lovely.
Hmm. Perhaps I should have added hat it is much admired and photographed! And very distinctive in the City skyline.

Beautiful, I wonder if you can go up there.
At the moment there is an ongoing appeal for urgent restoration work of the spire, so I don’t think it would be a great idea!
Quite an interesting post Isobel! Especially interesting your reply to 2fur. I can imagine it would be a sobering experience to see pictures of the jounalists. I can’t help but think of Daniel Pearl.

How beautiful and looks Italianate to me. I’ve never visited this church. Will make a point of doing so. Thanks, Isobel. 🙂
It’s well worth it. The City is a treasure trove of Wren churches. Have you been to St Stephen Walbrook? A must.
Nope but I’m making a list…. 🙂
🙂 In that case, add St Mary Abchurch. It has places for C17 dogs that attended with their owners.
